Cancellation of Winter 2020 Season

Dear Members,

I am writing to inform you that the Committee of Basketball Moe Inc. held an online meeting on Tuesday 11th August to discuss the situation surrounding our Winter Season and the current COVID-19 pandemic.

At this meeting, the Committee resolved to cancel the remaining rounds of the 2020 Winter season.

We know that a number of you have concerns regarding registration fees that were paid for the now cancelled season, the Committee has determined as follows:

  • A credit of $21.00 AUD will be issued to all registered junior members to use towards registration fees for our next season. This amount is less expenses incurred by the club through facilitating the three rounds that were played prior to Stage 3 restrictions being implemented again on 5th August 2020.
  • The association will consider issuing a pro-rata refund of $21.00 AUD per registered player to those experiencing financial difficulties as a result of the pandemic or for those who do not intend on participating next season. Refunds are not guaranteed and will be assessed by the association on a case by case basis. If you wish to request a refund, please send the club an email outlining your circumstances to secretary@basketballmoe.com.au
  • The Basketball Victoria Participant License fee (Affiliation fee) will remain valid for the following season as it is a 365-day license. Basketball Victoria are extending all active licenses for individuals for the duration of the period that basketball is unable to be played throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Basketball Victoria will consider refunds for the Participant License fee under specific circumstances. More information is available here: https://basketballvictoria.com.au/covid-19/return-to-sport-updates-for-participants/ – if you think you meet the eligibility criteria and wish to seek a refund, please send the club an email outlining your circumstances to secretary@basketballmoe.com.au so we can then submit a request to Basketball Victoria on your behalf as per their refund process.

Please remember to look after yourself, and others during these tough times. Be sure to check in with your friends, family and team mates. Basketball will be back, and we will get through this together. If you or someone you know is struggling, the following services are available:

Lifeline – 13 11 14
Beyond Blue – 1300 22 4636
Kids Help Line – 1800 55 1800

and in an emergency, always call triple zero (000).

Lastly, thank you for your patience and understanding whilst we worked through what has been a difficult time for grass root sports and the wider community.

Basketball Moe Inc. remains committed to facilitating competitions when it is safe and legal to do so. At this stage, we plan to resume with a new Summer season when restrictions allow for a return to basketball competitions.

Take care, and stay safe.

Yours in basketball,
